    (KINGSTON, Jamaica; 2022 March 14):

    Energy Market Jitters and Electricity Demand Trends will be the focus of the Office of Utilities Regulation’s (OUR) public webinar on 20222 March 16.
    The webinar will be broadcast globally and will provide a forum that puts the spotlight on crucial issues surrounding the electricity sector, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the present conflict in
    Europe and Jamaica’s vulnerabilities.
    The panelists are:
     Cedric Wilson, OUR’s Deputy Director-General with responsibility for the Electricity and Water & Sewerage sectors;
     Valentine Fagan, Power Systems Generation Consultant at OUR; and
     Gerald Lindo, Sustainable Energy Expert, at the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Barbados.
    The panelists will explore the state of the global energy market, the implications for electricity production in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean of the ongoing instability in supplies and prices and options to be explored to reduce energy demand.
    “The OUR, as Jamaica’s electricity regulator has been paying close attention to the world market in terms of fuel prices and its impact on electricity bills. That situation has now been exacerbated by recent
    developments in Europe which have already began to have adverse effects on both prices and supplies at home.
    “Our webinar we will share perspectives on these developments and examine both immediate and medium to long terms options for countries such as Jamaica”, says OUR’s Director-General, Ansord E. Hewitt.
    The public and industry stakeholders are invited to log on to this discussion via the OUR’s YouTube and Facebook platforms where the discussions will be livestreamed. They will get an opportunity to ask
    questions during the Question & Answer (Q&A) segment.
